Who is ajax dj

If you happen to be coming up in Sydney in the early s then you definitely crossed paths with Adrian Thomas aka DJ Ajax , and the man was always a gent. Breaks ruled the scene, and Ajax pushed it in to new directions, giving that dirty-electro edge to us all, and blowing up the clubs on a weekly basis, later extending his reach to becoming a poster boy for the mash-ups and underground electro sound.

Even if not playing, if he was in town he seemed to have a residency to the daytime party that was frequented by anyone and everyone, regardless of musical differences. We were heavy in to funk at the time, but those Sunday sessions were a standard, and some of those parties with Bang Gang on decks will never be forgotten.

Whenever Ajax was playing it was a masterclass on how to move a floor, straight party vibes that influenced a lot of us. The Bang Gang eventually moved to Club 77 and after a couple of years running a weekly club night, pulled it back to a monthly event at The Gaff.

The boys also became a popular fixture in Melbourne, establishing a solid fan-base from their monthly appearances at Honkytonks. In the inthemix50 poll, Ajax crept up to the 5 position.

I only saw him two weeks ago in Melbourne at an event with Sneaky Sound System. OneLove director Frank Cotela said he could not believe the news and that his assistant Tyson O'Brien was good friends with him and was devastated by the news.

In a previous video interview on OneLove TV, Thomas said he liked hanging out with young people who came to watch him play because it made him feel young.

A spokesperson for Modular Records said: "It is a tragedy and a shock and Adrian will be greatly missed. It was an honor to work with, know, and love him. Any further details of his death and funeral arrangements will be communicated by his family at an appropriate time.

Vincent Vendetta from Australian band Midnight Juggernauts said Thomas' tragic death was "all so deeply sad".

From coming to our first tiny shows in '04, or giving us one of our first remixes it was clear he was always eager to push up-and-comers.

I'll remember the times we all spent in rainy London together in '06 when we should have been cold and depressed, but he'd always spread his infectious fireball energy to make everyone cheery and untroubled.

In my earlier days I'd often cross paths on the Sydney DJ circuit with Ajax and if I knew I was going to I would be stoked because any time spent with Ajax was always positive one. Not only was it a pleasure to listen and watch this very talented DJ mix records together, he was the most lovely down-to-earth person that always had time for a good conversation.

This is a real loss to the dance music world. My thoughts go out to family, friends and fans. He played that mash-up style with more brains and respect for the source material than those who followed in his footsteps. I guess he was kind of like Erol Alkan in some respects, in that his rise coincided with he rise of electro house - but once he got there, he proved there was much more to him than one sound. He was always a gentleman, a true legend, and my friend that is how you will be remembered — as a legend, a dance legend.

Quite a legend. The one who always kept the vibes going in Australia, both on the music scene and also as an all round good bloke. RIP Adrian, you were a dear friend and a true believer. The world is a little less bright now but your spirit and the joy you brought.
