Who is bolin in legend of korra
These bender brothers fight on in the arena and later fight for their friends and even the entire world. They don't back down from a fight, and while Bolin may feel like he lives on Mako's shoulders, this earth bender boy is a fascinating character in his own right.
To know him is to love him! These brothers had a hard time when their parents were killed, and they clearly didn't have anyone to take them in. So, they landed right on Republic City's mean streets, but Mako's responsible attitude kept the brothers alive, and they earned their keep later as pro benders.
Bolin, for one, has experience in panhandling which is both fortunate and unfortunate for him , and he uses this to try and raise cash for the pro bending tournament's entry fee. Later, when he and Mako wake up in Ba Sing Se's streets, Bolin comments how this feels unpleasantly familiar. It's easy to agree that Bolin is a great guy, and right from the start, he's a kind fellow who only wants to make others happy. Bolin has a wonderful time going on casual dates with Korra, but he got his heart broken when Korra locked lips with Mako.
Bolin got over that, and later met the lovely Opal at Zaofu and tried to woo her. She liked him too, but they suffered a serious rift when Bolin cast his lot with the Earth Empire. And most of all, he got involved with the terrifying Water Tribe princess Eska, and she held a terrified Bolin tight in her icy grip. One of these days, Bolin! Early in season 2, we get a brief montage of what our heroes have been up to since we last saw them after the battle with the Equalists.
Mako is a rising star among the Republic City police, Asami is leading Furure Industries to new heights, and Bolin has stepped into Mako's shoes as the team leader of the Fire Ferrets pro bending team. But based on his new teammates' apathetic attitude and their swift defeat in the arena, Bolin is a bit overwhelmed here.
Being the boss isn't all glory. It's a lot of work, and everyone's counting on you. Good characters don't appear the first time around, and concept art is when you mold the creative clay a few times to get the final product.
Either Bolin would have been interesting, but we're glad he has more flair. Bolin is capable of empathizing with his peers and friends, but not on command. He, more or less, stumbled his way into it. Bolin has a goofy charm. He does not have a way with words, and he misreads people often or blurts out nonsense when stressed. He makes a bad first impression, but the second impression will be better. This resulted in him becoming boyfriend and girlfriend with Opal. That, and countless other times when his earnest and kind nature won over the people around him at the last minute.
He can cheer you up. Just give him a minute. Bolin may come off as a buffoon with low emotional intelligence, but he knows how to leave the past in the past and look to the future. An example of this was when he was heartbroken after Korra kissed Mako.
However, he moved right on and was ready for the next lady Eska. He moved on from her too when their relationship rapidly soured, and he showed no real emotional scarring from his time on the street.
Lastly, he joined Kuvira's army to build a great future for the Earth Kingdom's people. Korra grew up during the series, and Bolin also did the same He grew from being a bumbling teenager who clings to his friends, all the way to a gentleman who always does or tries to do the right thing. This is a cumulation of previous points. During the entire series, Bolin moves on from the past, learns from his mistakes, and becomes a confident bender who can easily see the correct path to justice and pursue it.
He eventually does not need Korra or Mako as a crutch by season four. Instead, they are his peers and equals. Bolin is indeed a bender where Sokka is not, and Bolin can't match Sokka's planning and investigation skills. For one thing, they're both the funny guy on the team, which viewers loved. The president informed Team Avatar that a rogue faction of the Earth Empire was still operating in the State of Gaoling , and threatened to put the first democratic elections in jeopardy.
The group planned to personally journey to Gaoling to diffuse the situation, and were also joined by Kuvira, as Korra believed that she was now a broken woman and could be used to help the Earth Empire stand down. Kuvira failed to dissuade Guan, who revealed his intentions to run for governor of Gaoling against the state's uninspiring candidates.
The group agreed to persuade Toph to run as a charismatic candidate who could defeat any supporters of the Earth Empire. The team was brought back to a reeducation camp, where Doctor Sheng revealed her advanced brainwashing technique that could manipulate the election.
The three members of Team Avatar were all brainwashed into becoming soldiers for the Earth Empire. The three members of Team Avatar advanced on Korra as she tried to take off from a Metal Clan airship; Asami was taken by Korra and her allies, while Wu was taken by Guan. The brothers and Wu had their brainwashing reverse-engineered, with Bolin being kissed and embraced by Opal after he returned to his own mind.
Mako witnessed Wu's speech announcing the readjustment of the Earth Kingdom's democratic transition , looking on with approval. Back in Republic City, Mako told Kuvira that he was grateful for what she did to defeat the remnants of the Earth Empire after she tried to make amends by entering a guilty plea in her trial. Bolin's upbeat personality is a direct opposite to Mako 's serious nature.
Despite his tough childhood on the street, Bolin is still a laid-back and fun-loving person and possesses a good sense of humor, in contrast to his older brother Mako. At the same time, he is not without insecurities, having a degree of sensitivity over his inability to perform metalbending. According to Mako, he has a "knack" for getting himself into trouble.
Bolin affirms that he is strong, fun, and attractive, though readily admits he is not good at reading other people. Bolin is also not the best at keeping secrets, as he accidentally blabbed to Asami about Mako and Korra's kiss while she was still dating his brother.
His naive and immature personality is attributed to his past, as Mako attempted to shield him from the harsh realities of the world after their parents were murdered. Despite such nervousness, he is always respectful and deferential. While traveling through Earth Empire territory, Bolin refused to leave a group of escaped prisoners behind and readily engaged in combat on their behalf.
Although helpful and friendly, Bolin is also protective of the people about whom he cares and will spring to the defense of his friends and family.
A prime example of this would be when he rode in on Naga to Asami's rescue at the Equalist airfield, employing ferocious and brutal earthbending attacks on Hiroshi Sato, who was about to kill her with his mecha tank. On the other hand, Bolin is generally forgiving of others, even if they have wronged him or those he cares about, such as Korra, Varrick, or Eska. Bolin is an idealist, always motivated by a strong desire to help people and make their lives better.
When the Earth Kingdom fell into chaos, he joined Kuvira and her army, believing she wanted to help others as much as he did. As a result, his idealism and naivete prevented him from second guessing the extreme lengths Kuvira would go to in order to achieve their goals, until they were pointed out to him.
Bolin can be gullible at times and was taken advantage of by Desna and Eska due to his affection for the latter. He was grateful to Korra for starting a war just to get away from Eska, but his joy immediately turned into fear upon seeing Eska coming for him in a fit of rage.
Bolin perfected his earthbending abilities competing in pro-bending matches. As the earthbender for an official pro-bending team, Bolin has become highly skilled in the art of earthbending. Bolin describes his earthbending style as "light on his feet", being more agile and less reliant to being rooted to the ground as opposed to conventional earthbending.
Despite this, Bolin also employs traditional earthbending outside of matches, lifting boulders and summoning earth walls, as well as employing brute strength to help the Beifong sisters topple a building, albeit with noticeable strain. Bolin also possesses a sharp aim, being able to direct an earth disc at the exact angle to make it ricochet off a guard rail and squarely strike an opposing player. His fine control and aim is of such skill that he can bend a tiny pebble and strike P'Li's third eye [44] or fire small chunks of earth in rapid succession to take down a speeding motorcycle.
Although Bolin discovered by accident that he had the rare ability to bend lava, he was able from the start to quickly stop an oncoming flow of the heated substance. During his second fight with Ghazan, Bolin was able to hold his own using this skill against the more experienced lavabender. At first, he used a range of pro-bending tactics in his combat against Ghazan. As the battle continued, he used more traditional earthbending tactics, incorporating them into his lavabending.
He also demonstrated the ability to lavabend with his feet and is able to turn lava back into earth much quicker and with less effort, while also being able to create large waves of molten rock.
Bolin is agile, as he was able to dodge the Dai Li's attack in attempt to escape the Earth Queen's Temple, and also has some skill in wrestling and grappling, which he utilized during his one-on-one tiebreaker match with an experienced Black Quarry Boar-q-pine earthbending opponent.
He also has a degree of resilience to pain, as during his semifinal pro-bending match, he was able to continue fighting despite being hit in his right shoulder by an earth disk. Bolin has also proven himself to be a good swimmer, capable of holding his breath for a significant period of time while simultaneously dodging Ghazan's lavabending attacks.
Bolin has a strong business sense, as has been noted by both Asami and Varrick, and is a talented and charismatic public speaker, able to draw huge positive reactions from crowds. Varrick decided to exploit this ability by casting Bolin as the star of his propaganda films, making him the poster boy of the Southern rebellion. Bolin was able to figure out how to pilot an airship, albeit with some difficulty, [47] and has a close relationship with his pet fire ferret, Pabu, to whom he could give various commands.
