He asks for 6 mats, which you must gather from either the left or right side then run back and click on the cauldron to add to his mixture within a time limit, or else the mixture fails. Don't worry if you don't get it right the first time, you can just restart by talking to him There are a total of 25 mats available: 11 are available on either side, and 7 are available only on one side or the other i.

The first group of three he asks for are from the group available on either side; this means as you start the event, and then subsequently deposit the first two, you can just run to either side as you are watching for what to get next because they're definitely found on whichever side you choose.

After you deposit the third one you need to wait to see what's next The second group of three are only found on one side or the other; this means you must choose the correct side or you won't have time to keep the event going. There are two tricks to this second group of three mats.

The second trick that helped me is developing a list of all the mats, including which side they are on, and keeping that list handy while doing this quest. Eventually I start memorizing where things are, but at first I found it really helpful to do this. They only thing I did not include is which shelf they're on, because as you will figure out some items are only on certain shelves. Haven't yet figured out if that part is worth my time to track or not. I can't figure out how to create justified text in this editor, so just imagine that the first 11 below are centered, then the next 7 are right justified, and the last 7 are left justified.

Cut and paste this into a text editor and do the justifying yourself. This is my way of visually indicating which side they're on by just viewing the list. So, as he asks for mats just glance at the list and it will tell you which side to go to.
