What happens if companions die in skyrim

This happened after getting hit by a giant too, so how can they die? When they kneel they're low in health but still above zero. If they get hit more, by say a fireball spell that does splash damage, then their health will hit zero and they'll die. Not that I've ever done that by accident or anything. I killed Lydia when she stepped in front of one of my lighting spells. She flew to the other side of the room with all of my precious gifts to her flying everywhere. At least this happened before I reloaded a save.

Then one day one of them did So I trashed the house of the people that killed them and left their naked bodies on the fire.

Yeah, after kneeling they will die if enough enemies hit, or if you manage to hit them. There is a way around this though, if you play on PC. But some people will view that as cheating. I must admit I made my wife Aela essential, as well as my dog. I will just load if they die anyway. But when I make my all magic Mage character I won't load no matter what. Oh, and it seems if companions like Lydia dies they will show up in the Hall of the Dead or whatever in the city they lived in.

Which is a nice touch. The game is very, very reluctant to let a companion get killed by the enemy. The enemy can reduce a companion to the knockdown point, as LAR said; but that's virtually always where things stop.

But the game is not at all reluctant to let a companion get killed by you. So if your companion is already at the knockdown point, and you accidentally hit your companion with a stray arrow or sword swing, that's very likely to be the coup de grace. And if you're a mage who uses lots of Destruction magic, your companions are likely to die like skeevers. There are people going around saying your companions will only die if the player "finishes them off", intentionally or not. They can die to some Mobs as stated earlier although this is not a real concern of mine.

I just grab another down the road. They can die although it takes a pretty big battle to do so. My Housecarl and I were fighting a dragon and two giants with their herd of mammoths when she died.

I think it was actually cross-fire from the dragon that got her. The barking-ass dog survived though. Your follower will always enter into a downed condition first no matter how hard they've been hit. They will not die unless damage has been inflicted upon them after they've entered the down state. The source of this damage can either originate from your character or the game environment. For example, I was fighting two giants near Whiterun and both used Giant Stomp simultaneously on my follower Lydia.

When this attack is used on your own character, you are hurled into the air and die. However in Lydia's case, she simply entered into a down state and the giant's began to pursue me. Later during the fight, I passed by Lydia in her down state while one Giant was swinging his club. The melee attack missed my character, but it did hit Lydia and she died. Also, if you have level Conjuration you can buy a spell from the Conjuration dude in the College of Winterhold called Dead Thrall which basically summons a corpse as a zombie to fight for you.

The spell never wears off and the Thrall will follow you forever, unless it gets killed. It'll be awhile before I reach that. I think I'm at I hardly ever use magic, except when I'm fighting dragons. Sign Up for free or Log In if you already have an account to be able to ask and answer questions.

The people you can acquire as personal followers, they can die permanently if they are killed by either you, or an enemy. I just lost Feadal the elf to a dragon, so I loaded a previous save.

User Info: carlsjos. Can Lydia die permanently? She can die. Hasn't died on me yet, but a friend of mine said she died during one of his raids on a tomb.
